Shirakabe, Chikara and Shumoku were the towns of the intermediate samurai class in the Owari Clan (the western part of Aichi Prefecture) in the Edo Era (1603-1867). After the Meiji Restoration(1868-), many residences of industrialists were built in this district. So, a lot of buildings of old Japanese and semi-Western style are existent (e.g. Catholic Chikara-machi Church, Koraku(a high-class Japanese-style restaurant), Old Toyota Sasuke’s Residence).

How to go there from Kyoya Ryokan

-By Taxi (10min., about 1,000yen/ car)

1) If you take a taxi, please tell the driver the destination, ‘Shirakabe, Nagoya Higashi Zeimusho-mae’.

2) You can arrive there easily!

-By Bus (12min., 200yen/ person)

1) If you go out of the entrance of Kyoya, please turn right, go straight for two blocks and turn right. Then, please go to the nearest stop, ‘Meido-cho’, with seeing the pachinko parlor, ‘MGT’ on your right side.

2) From Meido-cho, please take the bus ‘Kan Meieki 1′. The system of fee is prepayment.

3) If you take the bus, please get off at the bus stop, ‘Higashi Kataha’ (Meido-choー＞Aichi-ken Toshokanー＞Sotobori-dori(nishi)ー＞Sotobori-doriー＞Otsu-bashiー＞Shisei Shiryokan Minamiー＞Higashi Kataha).

4) If you get off the bus, please go to the north the road under the expressway and turn right at the intersection, ‘Chikaramachi 3′.

5) Shirakabe-Chikara-Shumoku Historic Preservation District is there.

白壁・主税・橦木の町並み（歴史的保存地区）

白壁・主税・橦木は、江戸時代（１６０３ー１８６７）には尾張藩（愛知県西部）の中級武士の町でした。明治維新の後（１８６８−）は、この地区には多くの実業家の邸宅が建てられました。そんなことから、古い日本様式や和洋折衷の建物が多く現存しています（例：カトリック主税町教会、香楽（料亭）、旧豊田佐助邸宅）。

当館からの行き方

―タクシーにて（１０分、約１０００円／台）

１）タクシーに乗られたら、運転手に行き先「白壁、名古屋東税務署前」をお告げください。

２）容易にたどり着けます！

―バスにて（１２分、２００円／人）

１）京屋の玄関を出られたら、右に曲がり、２区画進んで右に曲がってください。そして、パチンコ屋さんMGTを右側に見つつ、最寄りの「明道町」バス停に行ってください。

２）明道町から「幹名駅１」のバスに乗ってください。料金は前払い制です。

３）バスに乗ったら、「東片端」バス停で降りてください。（明道町ー＞愛知県図書館ー＞外堀通（西）ー＞外堀通ー＞大津橋ー＞市政資料館南ー＞東片端）

４）バスを降りたら、高速道路の下の道を北に進み、「主税町３」交差点で右に曲がってください。
