“Temple remembered in connection with Nobuhide Oda, and his son, Nobunaga Oda” ( Referential URL: http://www.banshoji.or.jp/english.htm )

Banshoji Temple was built by the order of Nobuhide Oda in 1540.

His son, one of the famous feudal lords in Japan, Nobunaga Oda brought a mochi (rice cake) which he had received from the chief priest of the temple to the battle in Echizen(Fukui Pref.) in 1570. In the middle of the withdrawal, a famous sniper of the enemy, Zenjubo Sugitani sniped at him in Ohmi(Shiga Pref.).  However, he got off with a slight wound through the mochi. From this episode, the tradition of Migawari Mochi (the substitute rice cake) was formed.

On the 28th day every month, Mochi-tsuki(pounding steamed rice into cake) is held after the tradition.

How to go there from Kyoya Ryokan

-By Taxi (15 min., about 1,500yen/ car)

1)If you take a taxi, please tell the driver the destination, ‘Banshoji (Osu)’.

2)You can arrive there easily!

- By Subway (25min., 200yen/ person)

1)If you go out of the entrance of Kyoya, please turn right, go straight for two blocks and turn left.

2)Please go up the slope to Shin-misonobashi, the intersection of the end of the upward slope.

3)Then, please turn right and go straight to two blocks to the south.

4)Passing Yoshinoya(Gyudon), you can find an entrance of Marunouchi Subway Station(T06). Please enter that.

5)Please take a train of Tsurumai Line (Blue Line) bound for Akaike or Toyotashi.

6)Please get off at Kamimaezu(T09).

7)Please go out of Entrance No.8 and turn right soon.

8)If you go straight, you can find the temple with a lot of Japanese lantern on your left side. That is Banshoji Temple.

萬松寺

「織田信秀と、その息子・織田信長ゆかりの寺」（参考ホームページ：http://www.banshoji.or.jp/english.htm）

萬松寺は、織田信秀の命により、１５４０年に建てられました。

彼の息子で、日本で有名な大名の１人である織田信長は、１５７０年に萬松寺の住職からもらった餅を越前（福井県）での合戦に持っていきました。撤退の最中、近江（滋賀県）で、有名な敵の射撃の名手、杉谷善住坊に鉄砲で狙い撃ちされました。しかし、餅のおかげで、彼は軽傷で済んだのです。この逸話から、身代わり餅の伝承が生まれたのでした。

毎月２８日には、この伝承にちなみ、餅つきが行われています。

当館からの行き方

ータクシーにて（１５分、約１５００円／台）

１）タクシーに乗られたら、運転手に行き先「萬松寺（大須）」とお告げください。

２）容易にたどり着けます！

ー地下鉄にて（２５分、２００円／人）

１）京屋の玄関を出られたら、右に曲がり、２区画まっすぐ進んで左に曲がってください。

２）上り坂を坂が終わる新御園橋交差点まで上がってください。

３）そして、右に曲がり、南に２区画進んでください。

４）吉野家（牛丼）を過ぎると、丸の内（T０６）地下鉄駅入口が見つかります。そこから入ってください。

５）鶴舞線（青の線）の赤池もしくは豊田市行きにご乗車ください。

６）上前津（T０９）でお降りください。

７）８番出入口から出て、すぐに右に曲がってください。

８）まっすぐ進むと、左側にたくさん提灯があるお寺が見つかります。それが萬松寺です。
